Simon Zhang CEO
Simon Zhang is the Vice Chairman of Shanghai Bi Ke Clean Energy Technology Company (CECC), responsible for CECC’s key activities. He leads the initiation and execution of CECC’s “New Gas Value Chain” Strategy to connect clean and abundant overseas gas to high value oil products in China through technology and commercial innovation.
Prior to CECC, Simon held a wide range of leadership roles in BP, including VP of Strategic Alliances in BP Solar where he led all business development activities in Asia and was vice Chairman of a $600m JV; Chief of Staff of BP Wind and Solar where he supported the CEO preparing for its potential IPO; Chief of Staff of BP Global Chemicals where he initiated and led $2bn M&A deal and completed all negotiation and due diligence; Deputy CFO of BP-Sinopec Retail JV in Zhejiang, China with 400 sites, 4,000 staff and $2bn revenue; Strategy Advisor at BP Group Strategy where he coordinated 2005 Group Chief Executive’s annual strategy presentation; Finance Executive at BP Group Treasury where he built treasurer level relationship with 12 Global 500 companies. Prior to joining BP, Simon was a senior engineer with ExxonMobil in Houston, led several large plant trials and commercialized two major products.
Simon received Chemical Engineering degrees from Tsinghua University (BS) in China, Purdue University (MS), and the University of Wisconsin (PhD) in the US, and MBA from the University of Chicago, and also holds a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
